PORT QASIM – The landscape of Pakistan’s automotive industry saw a seismic shift this week as BYD (Build Your Dreams), the world’s leading EV manufacturer, commenced its local assembly operations at a state-of-the-art facility in Karachi. This move officially positions Pakistan as an emerging manufacturing base for right-hand drive electric vehicles.
The local production lineup includes the BYD Atto 3 and the BYD Seal, with plans to introduce the Shark 6 pickup later this year. “Our goal is to make high-quality electric mobility accessible to the Pakistani consumer while reducing the country’s carbon footprint,” a BYD Pakistan representative said. The government has welcomed the move, offering incentives under the new Auto Industry Policy 2026-31.
Auto analysts suggest that BYD’s entry will force traditional Japanese assemblers to accelerate their hybrid and EV plans. “Localization is the only way to keep car prices stable. If BYD can achieve a high percentage of local parts, it will be a game-changer for the middle-class buyer,” an industry expert noted.
